La música pop (del inglés pop music, contracción de popular music) es un género de música popular que tuvo su origen a finales de los años 1950 como una derivación del tradicional pop, en combinación con otros géneros musicales que estaban de moda en aquel momento. Los términos música pop y música popular se usan a menudo de manera indistinta, aunque el segundo tiene un sentido más amplio al dar cabida a otros géneros distintos del pop que se consideren populares.
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, mejor conocido por su nombre artístico The Weeknd (Toronto, Canadá, 16 de febrero de 1990), es un cantante, compositor y productor canadiense.
A finales de 2010, Tesfaye subió anónimamente varias canciones a YouTube bajo el nombre "The Weeknd". Lanzó tres mixtapes de nueve pistas a lo largo de 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, que eran muy aclamadas. Al año siguiente, lanzo su álbum recopilatorio titulado "Trilogy" con treinta pistas que consisten en versiones remasterizadas de su material mixtape y tres canciones adicionales. Fue puesto en el mercado por el sello musical Republic Records y XO. En 2013, lanzó su álbum debut Kiss Land, que fue reconocido por los singles "Kiss Land" y "Live For".
