Pop rock es un genero musical que combina melodías y letras típicas de la música pop con elementos propios del rock como son una mayor presencia de guitarras eléctricas o un ritmo más fuerte. Existen diversas definiciones para el término que van desde una forma más lenta y suave de rock hasta un subgénero dentro del pop.
Nelly Kim Furtado es una cantante y compositora canadiense, nacida el 2 de Diciembre de 1978 en la ciudad de Victoria, Columbia Británica. Con influencias del pop, folk, rnb y hip-hop, es conocida por experimentar con diferentes instrumentos, géneros, idiomas y estilos vocales, lo cual ella atribuye a sus padres, que son de origen portugués, y debido también a sus variadas influencias musicales y su interés por otras culturas. A muy temprana edad empezó a tocar instrumentos musicales y a los 13 comenzó a componer canciones.
Saltó a la fama con el lanzamiento de su primer álbum Whoa, Nelly! en el 2000, el cual vendió mas de 7 millones de copias. Su primer single I'm Like a Bird fué un éxito y gracias a él ganó su primer Grammy. Años mas tarde, tras convertirse en madre, lanza su segundo álbum Folklore, el cual fue menos exitoso aunque logró vender más de 3 millones de copias. De él destacan los singles Try y Powerless (Say What You Want).
