El rhythm and blues (abreviado por sus siglas R&B) o jumping music es un género musical derivado en su origen del jazz, el gospel y el blues. El término musical fue introducido en Estados Unidos en 1949 por Jerry Wexler de la revista Billboard. Sustituyó al término conocido como "race records" (grabaciones de raza), considerado ofensivo para la posguerra mundial así como para la categoría de Billboard "Harlem Hit Parade" en junio de 1949, y principalmente era usado para identificar el género musical que más tarde se desarrollaría en forma de rock and roll.
La cantante de Rhythm and Blues Kelly Price pasó la mayor parte de sus primeros años en la industria de la música pero tras bastidores, prestando su voz para los coros de grandes estrellas como Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Faith Evans y Brian McKnight, entre otros. Adicionalmente, ella fue la voz principal en el álbum "Mo Money, Mo Problems" de Notorious B.I.G y en el álbum de Ma$e "Feelin' So Good". En 1997, Price también apareció en "No Way Out" de Puff Daddy y fue la telonera en el tour de Puff Daddy.
Price lazó su álbum debut "Soul Of A Woman" en 1998 con Island Records, la cual también lanzó el hit "Friend Of Mine" y su remix también incluido en su álbum con la compañia de R. Kelly y Ronald Isley. Su segundo álbum "Mirror Mirror" fue lanzado en 2000 con Def Jam Records. Un álbum de Navidad "One Family" fue lanzado en 2001. Dos años después, Price regresó con un tercer álbum de estudio titulado "Priceless".
