Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Wilco es un grupo de rock estadounidense, conocido sobre todo por sus raíces en la música country. Jeff Tweedy, el principal compositor y cantante de la banda, fue miembro del grupo seminal de los años 1980 y 1990 Uncle Tupelo. Tweedy compartía la tarea de componer y cantar con su compañero de grupo Jay Farrar, que dejó Uncle Tupelo y formó Son Volt. Tweedy formó Wilco con los restantes miembros de Tupelo (el bajista John Stirratt, el batería Ken Coomer y violinista Max Johnston.
Wilco ha ido ganando popularidad desde su primer lanzamiento, el álbum A.M. de 1995, que es el único de los discos de la banda que todavía se parece al sonido de Uncle Tupelo. El disco contó con la producción de Brian Paulson y el trabajo de guitarra solista de Brian Henneman. Alcanzó el número 27 en la lista de descubrimientos de Billboardy y el 34 en la Pazz & Jop Critics Poll de The Village Voice de 1995.
