Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
The Strokes es una banda de rock formada en Nueva York, Estados Unidos por Julian Casablancas (vocalista y compositor), Nick Valensi (guitarra principal), Albert Hammond, Jr. (guitarra rítmica), Nikolai Fraiture (bajo) y Fabrizio Moretti (batería) en 1998. Alcanzaron la fama a principios del año 2000 como un grupo líder en la reactivación del garage rock.
Tras el lanzamiento de su aclamado álbum debut Is This It en 2001, muchos críticos nombraron al grupo como los "salvadores del rock", llegando a ser premiados como mejor banda extranjera en los Brit Awards de 2002. A partir de entonces, la banda ha sumado y mantenido una gran cantidad de seguidores y ha disfrutado de un gran éxito. Recientemente la prestigiosa revista musical NME ha realizado un ránking de los cien mejores álbumes de la última década, resultando ganador Is This It.
