Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
El cantante y compositor Robin Thicke, hijo de la vocalista Gloria Loring y de Alan Thicke, de la serie 'Los Problemas Crecen' (Growing Pains), comenzó escribiendo para Christina Aguilera, Mya, Brandy, Marc Anthony y Jordan Knight. Para el año 2000, Thicke con veintitantos años, cumplió el sueño de ver editado su álbum debut, Cherry Blue Skies, en otoño de 2002. Más tarde este fue retitulado Beautiful World y acondicionado para una promoción masiva en los medios en la primavera siguiente.
Thicke firmó más tarde con el sello de las Neptunes, Star Trak. Su segundo álbum, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, apareció en 2006. Con un disco de platino en marzo de 2007, el álbum se abrió camino hasta el quinto puesto de la lista Billboard 200 y coronó la lista Billboard de álbumes del Top R&B /Hip-Hop.
