Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Funeral Party es una banda de 5 integrantes que se reunieron una noche en un parque y decidieron armar el proyecto. Las bandas hardcore y metal dominaban la escena musical en Whittier, California, un suburbio al este de Los Angeles compuesto principalmente por la clase trabajadora. En este contexto, revive y emerge un post - punk dance-craze cada fin de semana con las presentaciones de Funeral Party, es así que la banda poco a poco fue aportando a la rica historia musical de L.A. Inicialmente, la banda ni siquiera tenía sus propios equipos y tenía que pedirlos prestados a las otras bandas que se presentaban junto a ellos en los patios de las fiestas y en las bodegas de las casas. Lars Stalfors (ingeniero de Mars Volta), invito a la banda a grabar en el estudio de Mars Volta, ubicado al este de Los Angeles, las sesiones dieron paso a "Chalice", que inmediatamente fue llegando a formar parte de los playlist de los locales. Algo único del sonido de la banda son las numerosas mezclas y fusiones en su música, la cual ha sido catalogada como el sonido viseral que encapsula las experiencias de la juventud contemporánea
La banda está compuesta por Chad Elliott en la voz y teclados, por James Torres en la guitarra, Kimo Kauhola en el bajo y Tim Madrid en los teclados y percusión. Dentro de las influencias la banda nombra a Brian Eno, Caberat Voltaire, Yaz, Aphex Twin, Au Paris, Human League, The Normal y Our Daughters Wedding.
