Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Barry Manilow (Brooklyn, New York City, Estados Unidos, 17 de junio de 1943) -nacido como Barry Alan Pincus- es un cantante, compositor, arreglista y productor estadounidense. Es conocido por éxitos como "I Write The Songs", "Mandy" y "Copacabana (At The Copa)". En 1990, la revista Rolling Stone le proclamó "representante de nuestra generación". Ha vendido más de 75 millones de copias en todo el mundo.
Estudiaría música en la Academia de Juilliard de Nueva York. En 1972 conoció a la actriz-cantante Bette Midler, la cual lo ayudó a impulsarse como cantante. En 1973 fue contratado por Midler, como pianista para su tour, y antes de esto había colaborado y arreglado en los discos de Midler. Ella se convirtió en su manager, luego de que se dio cuenta no solo de su talento sino del interés del público durante su tour que le tenían a Barry. Debido a este gran cambio, Manilow empezó a conocer a artistas, agentes, managers y productores debido a los contactos de Bette, la cual quería impulsar la carrera de Barry.
