Se llama música cristiana a la música creada y ejecutada como expresión del cristianismo. El término engloba una gran diversidad de estilos musicales que contienen mensajes bíblicos o letras de adoración y cuya motivación principal es la fe cristiana. Se ha compuesto durante los últimos 2mil años aproximadamente para manifestar tanto de manera personal como comunitaria las creencias religiosas y la fe en Dios. La definición de música cristiana, así como su papel fundamental su composición y su importancia llegan a tener diversas perspectivas q a veces varían según la denominación en cuestión.
El nombre de Jennifer Knapp nos remonta a siete años de historia en la música, periodo durante el cual esta canta autora dio vida a tres grandes producciones, con un debut que revoluciono el medio (Kansas – 1997). Cada una de estas producciones han generado numerosos hits, junto con masivas ventas. Todos estos logros hacen de Jennifer Knapp una de las artistas más importantes durante la última década.
Aunque hace bastante tiempo que ella no lanza una nueva producción después de The Way I Am (2001), Gotee Records, el sello que le vio nacer, lanza al mercado una compilación de grandes éxitos de lujo, más un segundo disco con rarezas estilo b-sides, la cual se llama simplemente The Collection. Lo interesante de esta colección es que las canciones aquí incluidas, en el primer disco, son de responsabilidad de sus fans. ¿Qué significa esto? Bueno, Gotee Records no quiso imponer una lista de canciones, sino que recurrió al gusto de sus fans para que ellos eligieran que temas debieran ser incorporados en este álbum. La idea en si es única. Es la primera vez que un disco esta creado basándose en la decisión de sus más fieles seguidores. Para ello, en el mes de agosto del 2003, los fans en forma individual seleccionaron tres de sus canciones favoritas desde sus tres discos. Las 15 canciones con mayor votación fueron ensambladas para dar vida al disco 1 de The Collection.
