Se llama música cristiana a la música creada y ejecutada como expresión del cristianismo. El término engloba una gran diversidad de estilos musicales que contienen mensajes bíblicos o letras de adoración y cuya motivación principal es la fe cristiana. Se ha compuesto durante los últimos 2mil años aproximadamente para manifestar tanto de manera personal como comunitaria las creencias religiosas y la fe en Dios. La definición de música cristiana, así como su papel fundamental su composición y su importancia llegan a tener diversas perspectivas q a veces varían según la denominación en cuestión.
El grupo dc Talk es una banda cristiana de rock y hip hop, en parte responsable por el aumento de la popularidad del género de la música cristiana contemporánea en la década de 1990 en Estados Unidos. Desde el año 2000 la banda ha hecho una pausa en su carrera como grupo. De ahí en adelante han comenzado, sus integrantes, una carrera como solistas, juntándose en determinadas ocasiones para diversos propósitos.Los integrantes del trío dc Talk, Toby Michael McKeehan (Toby Mac), Michael DeWayne Tait, y Kevin Max Eugene Smith, se conocieron en la universidad Liberty, en Lynchburg, Virginia. Después de reubicarse en Nashville, dc Talk lanzó una serie de álbumes con el emergente sello ForeFront, comenzando con su debut homónimo en 1989, seguido por su segundo esfuerzo certificado de Oro, Nu Thang de 1990; luego el álbum certificado de Platino, Free At Last de 1992; el exitoso lanzamiento conjunto con Virgin Records, Jesus Freak de 1995, que logró doble Platino e impulsó la popularidad del grupo a nivel general internacional; y también el disco de 1998 Supernatural, con ventas a nivel de Patino.
En el año 2000 dc Talk lanzó un álbum compilado titulado Intermission, que contenía varias de sus canciones anteriores, remezcladas o en sus versiones originales, además de dos canciones nuevas, "Chance" y "Sugarcoat It". Ese mismo año los miembros anunciaron que tomarían un descanso del grupo para concentrarse en proyectos solistas y lanzaron Solo: Special Edition EP, que contenía dos nuevas canciones de cada uno de los esfuerzos independientes de los miembros y una versión en vivo de "40" interpretada por el grupo.
