Inicios El debut de Ja Rule se produjo en la canción "Time to Build" con Jay-Z y DMX en el primer álbum del rapero Mic Geronimo, The Natural. También apareció con 0-1 y Chris Black como parte de Cash Money Click. En 1998 firmó con Def Jam y colaboró en el tema de Jay-Z "Can I Get a...". En 1999 editó su álbum debut, Venni Vetti Vecci, que incluía el éxito "Holla Holla".
