El término inglés FOLK significa de pueblo y deriva del alemán VOLK, una referencia a la gente sencilla. Por tanto, la definición más simple de la música folk nos indica que se trata de un género popular. Como es una definición anglosajona, se refiere principalmente a la música popular que se tocaba en las zonas rurales de los Estados Unidos en el siglo XVIIII. Con el paso del tiempo esta se transformó y se convirtió en lo que hoy conocemos como MÚSICA COUNTRY.
Puede que las influencias le delaten y que tanto el clasicismo de su propuesta como el tono de voz con el que ataca sus composiciones obliguen a pensar en una reencarnación nórdica de Bob Dylan, aún así, si algo ha conseguido el sueco Kristian Matsson es esquivar el siempre odioso juego de las comparaciones para irrumpir con autoridad en el folk contemporáneo. Voz, guitarra y banjo son las únicas herramientas que necesita The Tallest Man On Earth para moldear un puñado de sonidos emocionantes y desgarrados que, a pesar de lo espartano de la propuesta, cristalizan en el notable “Shallow Grave” y en canciones como “Where Do My Bluebirds Fly”, “The Blizzard's Never Seen The Desert Sands” y “Pistol Dreams”.
