La música alternativa es uno de los estilos musicales más populares a nivel internacional. El rock alternativo fue producido como una alternativa a la música a finales de los 80 y principio de los 90. Siendo en esta última década donde alcanza gran aceptación por parte de los amantes de la música, y esto se debió en gran medida a la colaboración de bandas punk de los años 70 y 80. La baja en popularidad del rock alternativo fue debido a la sobresaturación del mercado causado por los ejecutivos de compañías disqueras quienes solo pensaban en ganar plata.
Mandy Moore nació en Nashua, New Hampshire, el 10 de abril de 1984. Después de ver el musical Oklahoma! Decidió que quería seguir una carrera de cantante. Cuando era niña, cantó el himno nacional en varios eventos deportivos alrededor de su ciudad natal, Orlando en Florida, y se llegó a conocer como la niña del himno nacional.
A los 14, mientras grababa en un estudio en Orlando, un trabajador de la empresa Fed-Ex pasó por allí y se interesó en su talento, además de que conocía a alguien que trabajaba en Sony. A los 15, su primer álbum So Real salió a la venta, y su primer tour fue con los Backstreet Boys.
