La música alternativa es uno de los estilos musicales más populares a nivel internacional. El rock alternativo fue producido como una alternativa a la música a finales de los 80 y principio de los 90. Siendo en esta última década donde alcanza gran aceptación por parte de los amantes de la música, y esto se debió en gran medida a la colaboración de bandas punk de los años 70 y 80. La baja en popularidad del rock alternativo fue debido a la sobresaturación del mercado causado por los ejecutivos de compañías disqueras quienes solo pensaban en ganar plata.
Korn, (a menudo escrito KoЯn o KoRn) es una banda de Bakersfield, California, Estados Unidos. Son considerados los creadores del género nu metal. Junto con otras bandas de la época, fueron los que inspiraron a muchas de las bandas de nu metal y metal alternativo entre los años 1990 y comienzos del 2000.
El catálogo de la banda consiste de nueve debuts consecutivos en el top ten del Billboard 200, incluyendo un álbum recopilatorio, Greatest Hits Vol.1, y su octavo álbum de estudio, lanzado el 31 de julio de 2007. Hasta la fecha, Korn ha vendido más de 30 millones de álbumes mundialmente, incluyendo 16.5 en los Estados Unidos, mientras que han obtenido seis nominaciones a los premios Grammy—dos de las cuales han ganado. Korn se formó cuando Jonathan Davis lideraba en aquel momento una banda local llamada Sex Art, mientras trabajaba como ayudante de forense en Bakersfield, California. LAPD era el grupo en el que estaban James "Munky" Shaffer,David Silvera,Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu y Brian "Head" Welch. LAPD eran aparentemente más conocidos que Sex Art y aún puede encontrarse algún trabajo del grupo todo lo contrario que Sex Art, de lo que no queda nada. Munky, Fieldy, y David grabaron el disco debut de LAPD cuando apenas llegaban a la mayoría de edad, y en él pueden escucharse partes de actuales canciones de Korn. Jonathan, en cambio, permaneció en Sex Art cuatro meses.
