La música alternativa es uno de los estilos musicales más populares a nivel internacional. El rock alternativo fue producido como una alternativa a la música a finales de los 80 y principio de los 90. Siendo en esta última década donde alcanza gran aceptación por parte de los amantes de la música, y esto se debió en gran medida a la colaboración de bandas punk de los años 70 y 80. La baja en popularidad del rock alternativo fue debido a la sobresaturación del mercado causado por los ejecutivos de compañías disqueras quienes solo pensaban en ganar plata.
James Blunt, cuyo nombre real es James Hillier Blount nació el 22 de febrero de 1974, es un músico británico cuyo álbum, "Back to Bedlam" (de regreso a Bedlam, donde Bedlam era un antiguo manicomio de Londres), y más concretamente el primer sencillo del mismo: "You're Beautiful" (Eres Preciosa), le dieron fama en 2005. Su estilo es una mezcla de jazz y soul del norte.
Creció en el seno de una familia de tradición militar, y se educó en el Colegio Elstree (donde recibió su apodo ‘Blunty’), en la Universidad de Bristol y finalmente, en la Real Academia Militar de Sandhurst. Antes del lanzamiento de su primer álbum, James Blunt trabajó como oficial en el Ejército Británico, donde alcanzó el rango de capitán; estuvo al servicio de la OTAN en Kosovo. Estuvo presente en el funeral de la Reina Madre. En una entrevista, Blunt dijo que le habían disparado más veces que a 50 Cent.
